What is going on with Abortion?
I was in a local restaurant and a conversation regarding abortion came up. There were a couple of ladies there and younger gentleman.
Initially it was about the repeal of Roe vs Wade. One of the two women didn’t realize that the repeal only took the decision out of the Federal Governments hands and put it back to the individual states.
Once that was cleared up, one of the ladies was talking about her experience when she was pregnant at 16 years old, and how she didn’t get an abortion back then. She stated she doesn’t feel right about forcing people to have a child and have them be raised in the system. That happened to some of her family members, and they were traumatized by the experience. So, she is absolutely against children being raised in foster care.
Then the conversation took a turn. It wasn’t about her experience, but about the abortion itself. More importantly about the time in which someone has to make that choice. She recalled when she was 16. She knew early on that she was going to keep her daughter. The other lady at this time stated that when a woman/girl misses their second cycle, they should know if they want to keep the baby or not. Do you agree?
As the conversation continued, it was agreed there should be a time limit, i.e… how many weeks. Medical reasons aside, the person carrying the child should know early if they want to keep the baby or not.
What About the Father?
Next, we started to discuss the father’s rights in all of this. So, I ask you, does the father of the child have any say so? What if the father wants to keep the baby and the mother doesn’t? Is it really her body, her choice, how is that fair to the father?
Now, in the political scene, abortion is one of the main topics being discussed. Pro-Life or Pro-Choice are the sides that YOU need to choose from if you listen to our media. Is it really that black and white or a red/blue thing? Are there no common areas where people can agree?
People want to use the extremes when it comes to this topic. I know there are several examples where both sides can agree when an abortion is ok.
What I can get from both sides is that if you are Pro-Choice, you should be able to get an abortion at any time during the pregnancy. While Pro-Life supporters are really looking at the point of when does a baby become a life? When does they baby earn the rights and protection under the law.
Food for thought, if woman had a baby and two weeks after the baby is born, if they killed that child, they could be charged with murder. So, what about if some stabbed the baby in the womb two weeks before the child is born, isn’t that considered murder? what if this happened 6 weeks before the baby is due to would that still be considered murder? If so, wouldn’t that mean the baby is officially a person?
